Reshade Troubleshooting

Alright, alright—if you’re here, that means ReShade’s givin’ you grief. Maybe it won’t launch, maybe your screen’s a psychedelic mess, or maybe you just hit a button and everything exploded—been there. Don’t worry, we’ve wrangled this beast more times than I can count. Follow the steps below, and we’ll get you back in the ‘verse lookin’ sharp and stylin’ in no time.

  1. Uninstall and reinstall Reshade as explained in the tutorial video.
  1. Completely close Star Citizen and the Launcher. Use Task Manager to end any processes called RSI launcher. Start the Launcher and see if the Reshade menu bar appears at the top of the screen. If that doesn’t help, try restarting your entire PC.
  1. Make sure you installed Reshade to the correct Star Citizen version (i.e. LIVE vs PTU).
  1. Make sure Star Citizen is really installed where you think it is. If you originally installed to a location other than the C: drive, the Launcher can create a second install on the C: drive that it will use instead. Open the Launcher, go to Settings, and look for the “Library Folder” setting. Ensure Reshade has been installed to the Bin64 directory in that location.
  1. Use the correct presets. Only use the HDR files if you have an HDR-capable monitor, HDR-capable video card, and Windows has been configured to use HDR. Most users should use the SDR presets.
  1. If you are unable to download the preset ZIP file, temporarily disable any security software and try again. If that doesn’t work, copy the link from Discord and paste it into a web browser.
  1. Try running the Launcher and/or Star Citizen as an Administrator user.
  1. If you have changed any GPU performance settings, restore them to defaults. One user has reported that Star Citizen wouldn’t even start, but once the customizations made in GPU Tweak were removed all problems went away.
